Defect
On heavy-duty trucks equipped with a low-floor, rear dual-axle drivetrain and a 12-speed transmission, the joint between the flange coupling on the rear-rear axle and the drive pinion — which connects the propeller shaft between the rear-front axle and the rear-rear axle — has insufficient strength. This allows the castle nut seating surface to wear, causing the castle nut to loosen and the spline portion of the flange coupling or the threaded portion of the castle nut to strip. Continued use in this condition may cause the flange coupling to spin freely or disengage entirely, dropping the propeller shaft between the rear-front and rear-rear axles. In either case, the vehicle becomes inoperable.
Corrective action
Replace the rear-rear axle differential carrier on all vehicles with a corrected part. Because delivery of corrected parts in full quantity requires time, inspect the flange coupling installation condition on all vehicles and prioritize replacement on vehicles where an abnormality is found.

状況
低床式後2軸駆動の12段変速機を搭載した大型トラックにおいて、後前軸と後後軸間のプロペラシャフトを接続する後後軸のフランジカップリングとドライブピニオンとの締結部の強度が不足しているため、キャッスルナットの座面が摩耗することによりキャッスルナットに緩みが生じ、フランジカップリングのスプライン部またはキャッスルナットのネジ部が摩滅するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、フランジカップリングが空転、またはフランジカップリングが抜け出して後前軸と後後軸間のプロペラシャフトが脱落し、いずれの場合も走行できなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、後後軸のデフキャリアを対策品と交換する。 なお、対策品の全数供給に時間を要するため、フランジカップリング取付状態の点検を行い、異常が認められた車両を優先に交換する。
