Defect

Due to an improper manufacturing process for the continuously variable transmission (CVT) reduction gear, machining burrs remain in the gear's oil passages on some units. Continued use may cause these burrs to become lodged in the shift control valve, triggering a hydraulic control warning lamp along with poor acceleration, or may cause the vehicle to reverse immediately after shifting from the R range to the N range.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a non-defective unit.
