Defect

On turbocharged vehicles equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, the mounting section of the engine timing belt tensioner has insufficient rigidity, which may cause excessive belt vibration. This leads to uneven meshing between the belt and the crankshaft sprocket, resulting in belt damage. If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, the engine may stall and fail to restart.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, the timing belt is replaced with a new part, and the tensioner bracket and idler bearing are replaced with corrected parts.
