Filing in context
The Fuel pump is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 37 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 13 Subaru notifications from 2018 in this archive. For scale, 220 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 5 months.
Defect
The material of the engine wiring harness connected to the fuel pump is improper. Normal vehicle movement during use can degrade the contact condition of the connector terminals, causing a continuity fault. As a result, the pump may fail to operate, leading to engine stall while driving or difficulty starting the engine.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the wiring harness connected to the fuel pump connector with the corrected part. Additionally, inspect the connector on the fuel pump side and the connector on the vehicle-side harness; if discoloration, melting, or other damage is found, replace the pump flange and the vehicle-side harness.
