Defect
In the secondary air pump of the exhaust emission control system, the contact pressure inside the relay controlling the pump is insufficient. When the contacts close, arc discharge occurs, causing the contacts to weld together and allowing current to flow continuously. This keeps the pump motor running at all times, raising the internal pressure of the secondary air lines and illuminating a warning light. Continued operation causes the pump to overheat, melting resin components and producing abnormal odors and smoke. In the worst case, a vehicle fire may occur.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the secondary air pump relay with a corrected part.

状況
排出ガス発散防止装置の2次エアポンプにおいて、当該ポンプを制御するリレー内の接点の押付け力が不適切なため、接点オン時にアーク放電が発生し、接点が溶着され電流が流れ続けることがある。そのため、当該ポンプのポンプモーターが常時回転となり、2次エア配管の内圧が上昇し警告灯が点灯、そのまま使用を続けると、ポンプが高温となり樹脂部品が溶損し異臭や煙が発生、最悪の場合、火災に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、2次エアポンプのリレーを対策品に交換する。
