Filing in context
The ABS is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 30 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 25 Mazda notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 1,456 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 10 months.
Defect
On four-wheel-drive vehicles, the deceleration sensor (G-sensor) used for ABS control contains a capacitor that may leak electrolytic fluid after extended use. The fluid contacts the terminals of an IC mounted on the same circuit board, causing a short circuit that prevents the G-sensor from functioning correctly. As a result, the ABS does not operate normally and stopping distance is extended.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected G-sensor with a corrected part. Because supply of the corrected part requires time, an interim measure will be implemented immediately: all owners will be notified of the defect, the G-sensor will be removed, and the ABS will be disabled until the corrected part is available.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 7 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
