Defect

The hydraulic pressure relief valve that controls shift ratio inside the continuously variable transmission (CVT) was improperly machined on some units, causing the valve to remain stuck open and preventing hydraulic pressure from building. This results in insufficient drive force transmission, producing abnormal noise and vibration. In the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the continuously variable transmission with a conforming unit.
