Defect
When the automatic transmission lock-up mechanism is engaged, lubrication to the 2nd gear is insufficient. On vehicles that are driven continuously under conditions that sustain 5th-gear lock-up operation, the reduced lubrication causes abnormal heat buildup on the 2nd gear tooth surfaces, which lowers the gear's hardness. Continued use in this condition may cause the gear to fracture. In the worst case, the fractured gear may jam against adjacent gears, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, check the odometer reading. Vehicles that have reached or exceeded the specified mileage threshold must have the counter 2nd gear tooth surfaces inspected for heat discoloration. Vehicles with discolored tooth surfaces must have the complete automatic transmission replaced with a corrected unit. Vehicles below the mileage threshold, and those whose tooth surfaces show no heat discoloration, must have an additional 2nd gear lubrication oil line installed.

状況
①自動変速機のロックアップ機構作動時に2速ギヤの潤滑が不足しているため、5速ロッ クアップ作動状態を持続して走行できる道路環境の場合、2速ギヤへの潤滑不足から当該 ギヤの歯面が異常発熱し、ギヤの硬度が低下するものがある。そのため、そのまま使用を 続けると、当該ギヤが破損し、最悪の場合、破損したギヤが他のギヤに噛みこみ走行不能 となるおそれがある。
改善措置
①全車両、走行距離を確認し、判定基準以上の走行距離のものはカウンタ2速ギヤの歯面 の焼け状態を点検し、歯面が焼けているものは自動変速機一式を対策品と交換する。また 、判定基準未満の走行距離のもの、及び歯面が焼けていないものは、2速ギヤ潤滑用オイ ル配管を追加で取り付ける。
