Defect
On vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, the pin that secures the selector control rod to the selector in the shift control assembly is insufficiently press-fitted in some units. Continued use may, in the worst case, allow the pin to work loose and disengage, making gear shifting impossible.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the press-fit depth of the affected pin. On any vehicle where the press-fit depth is insufficient, replace the shift control assembly with the corrected part.
