Defect
The air heater raises intake air temperature to improve cold-start performance. Due to either (1) insufficient waterproofing and rust protection of the air heater relay, or (2) insufficient waterproofing and rust protection of the air heater relay combined with an improperly programmed control unit, the air heater relay may remain continuously energized. In the worst case, the air heater overheats, scorching surrounding electrical wiring and causing a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, confirm the vehicle type and replace the air heater relay with either (1) a corrected part incorporating waterproofing and rust-prevention measures, or (2) a corrected part incorporating revised contact material along with waterproofing and rust-prevention measures.

状況
原動機の吸入空気の温度を上昇させ、冷間時の原動機の始動性を向上させるエア・ヒー タにおいて、①エア・ヒータ・リレーの防水・防錆性能不足、または②エア・ヒータ・リ レーの防水・防錆性能不足及びエア・ヒータ制御用コントロールユニットのコンピュータ のプログラムが不適切なため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、エア・ヒータ・リレー が常時通電状態となり、最悪の場合、エア・ヒータが過熱して周辺の電気配線等が焼損し 、火災に至るおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、車両型式を確認し、当該エア・ヒータ・リレーを①防水・防錆対策を行なった 対策品、または②接点の材質変更及び防水・防錆対策を行なった対策品と交換する。
