Filing in context

The Fuel Hose / Pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 62 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 4 Subaru notifications from 2002 in this archive. For scale, 252 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 11 months.

Defect

In the fuel system, the material used for the fuel hose on naturally aspirated electronically controlled fuel injection engines is inappropriate. High temperatures cause the hose to lose flexibility. Continued use allows engine vibration and related forces to produce a fuel leak at the connection between the fuel hose and the fuel injection system. In the worst case, a vehicle fire may result.

Corrective action

Replace the fuel hose with a corrected part on all vehicles.
