Overview
| MLIT filing number | 1104852 |
|---|---|
| Type | Statutory Recall (government-mandated recall) |
| Date filed | October 13, 1997 |
| Manufacturer(s) | Subaru |
| Component | Fuel tank |
| Production period | February 25, 1992 — October 1994 |
| Vehicles affected | 68,845 units |
Defect
If the fuel line system becomes blocked, internal fuel tank pressure may rise under certain operating conditions, causing the tank to deform. In the worst case, the deformed tank may contact the propeller shaft, damaging the tank, allowing fuel to leak and resulting in a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
Inspect all vehicles and replace the fuel filler cap with a corrected part. Where the fuel tank is already making contact with surrounding components, replace the tank with a conforming unit.
