Defect
The lower gear of the seatback reclining mechanism on front seats has insufficient strength, causing the gear section to sustain damage. In the worst case, the seatback may collapse rearward.
Corrective action
Inspect all vehicles and install a hook on the seat hinge spring to prevent gear damage when the seatback is folded forward. Where the seat hinge gear is already damaged, replace it with a conforming part.
