Filing in context
The Window glass is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 16 Subaru notifications from 1997 in this archive. For scale, 821 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 9 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with power windows, the driver-side switch that raises and lowers the door glass contains a manufacturing defect. Continued use causes a short circuit inside the switch, preventing the door glass from operating. In the worst case, a vehicle fire may occur.
Corrective action
Inspect all vehicles and insert insulating synthetic rubber at the short-circuit location. Where the affected area is damaged, replace the switch with a conforming part.
