Filing in context
The Pressure Control and Transmission Components is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 7 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 44 Mitsubishi notifications from 2009 in this archive. For scale, 862 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 1 month.
Issue
The material used in the check valve that maintains vacuum in the brake booster is inappropriate, causing the valve to stick in the closed position while the vehicle is parked or stopped after engine shutdown. If the brake pedal is applied during low-speed operation immediately after a cold start—without first pressing the accelerator pedal—the stuck check valve fails to open, resulting in insufficient vacuum in the brake booster during the first brake application. This increases the pedal effort required to achieve braking.
Corrective action
Replace the check valve on all vehicles with a corrected part.
