Issue

On fire trucks, the mounting hole position for the power steering pump on the flywheel housing is incorrect, resulting in insufficient backlash between the power steering pump gear and the meshing air compressor gear. This causes gear damage and abnormal noise. Continued operation can fracture the power steering pump shaft and, in the worst case, increase steering effort.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, the power steering pump assembly is replaced with a corrected part, and the air compressor gear and gear case are replaced.
