Filing in context
The Fuel Tank is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 79 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 24 Suzuki notifications from 2016 in this archive. For scale, 4,312 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 11 months.
Defect
Assembly instructions for the fuel tank breather hose were inadequate, causing some hoses to be installed in a kinked condition. The kinked hose blocks airflow, preventing pressure regulation inside the fuel tank and causing the tank to deform. In the worst case, the fuel tank may be damaged and leak fuel.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the breather hose for blockage. If blocked, replace both the fuel tank and the breather hose. If not blocked, replace the breather hose with a new unit.
