Defect

In the starter, the cranking relay has insufficient durability. Repeated engine starts and idling stop cycles cause abnormal wear on the relay contacts, allowing wear debris to accumulate on the contact surfaces. Continued use may render the engine unable to start. In the worst case, a vehicle fire may occur during starter engagement or while driving.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the starter with the corrected part.
