Defect
On large trucks, the paint film thickness at the bolt-fastening area of the exhaust pipe mounting bracket is inadequate. Heat from the engine causes the paint film to thin, allowing the mounting bolts to loosen. Continued use in this condition may cause the bracket to detach and fall onto the roadway, creating a hazard to other traffic.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected bracket with a corrected part.
