This filing is one of 17 Subaru notifications from 2023 in this archive. Defect
During the manufacturing process of the inhibitor switch — which detects shift range position — the replacement criteria for the welding jig were insufficient, resulting in incomplete welding and inadequate sealing on some units. Continued use allows moisture to enter the switch interior, causing contact failure. This may result in difficulty starting the engine or failure of the reverse lamps to illuminate.
Corrective action
Replace the inhibitor switch on all vehicles with a conforming part.
