Filing in context
The Shock Absorber is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 11 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 39 Mitsubishi notifications from 2022 in this archive. For scale, 3,876 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 month.
Defect
On large and medium trucks equipped with air suspension, the rear axle shock absorber mounting bolts and nuts were tightened using an improper tool, resulting in some fasteners not being torqued to specification. Continued use may cause these bolts and nuts to loosen. In the worst case, the bolts and nuts may fall out, and on medium trucks, the shock absorber may contact the ABS sensor harness, causing the ABS to become inoperative.
Corrective action
Inspect the torque condition of the rear axle shock absorber mounting bolts and nuts on all vehicles. If loosening is found, replace with new bolts and nuts and tighten to the specified torque. If the shock absorber or surrounding components show damage as a result of this condition, repair or replace as necessary.
