Filing in context
The Exhaust emission reduction device is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 11 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 28 Hino notifications from 2022 in this archive. For scale, 783 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 11 months.
Defect
On medium-duty trucks equipped with the A05C (HC-SCR) engine, the regeneration control software for the HC-SCR catalyst is incorrect. Sulfur compounds in the exhaust gas are not removed from the catalyst and accumulate over time. This reduces catalyst performance, and nitrogen oxide emissions in the exhaust gas may exceed the regulatory limit.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, as an interim measure, inspect the SCR catalyst and perform a regeneration cycle if regeneration is possible. If regeneration cannot be performed or does not complete, replace the catalyst. Add the SCR catalyst regeneration procedure to the inspection and maintenance items in the maintenance log. Owners will be notified to bring vehicles in for repair as soon as the interim measure is ready. A permanent corrective measure will be implemented once determined.
