Defect
On heavy-duty trucks, the engine control program and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve settings are improperly configured. When manual regeneration of the DPR (exhaust gas after-treatment device) is interrupted frequently, fuel from post-injection enters the EGR cooler, generating carbon deposits that adhere to the intake valves. If the vehicle is then parked for an extended period, the viscosity of these carbon deposits increases. Upon the next engine start, the intake valves may experience sliding failure. In the worst case, a valve may fracture, producing abnormal noise and causing the engine to stall.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control program and replace the EGR valve with the corrected part. Also replace the head cover stay with a redesigned part. If inspection following parts replacement reveals abnormal noise from the intake valves, replace the complete cylinder head assembly.

状況
大型トラックにおいて、エンジン制御プログラムと排気ガス再循環(EGR)バルブの設定が不適切なため、DPR(排出ガス浄化装置)の手動再生が頻繁に中断された場合に、ポスト噴射による燃料がEGRクーラに廻り込み、カーボンデポジットが生成されて吸気バルブに付着し、そのままの状態で長時間駐車されるとカーボンデポジットの粘度が増加することがある。そのため、エンジン始動した際、吸気バルブが摺動不良となり、最悪の場合、バルブが折損し、異音が発生するとともにエンジンが停止するおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、エンジン制御プログラムを書き換えるとともに、EGRバルブを対策品に交換する。また、ヘッドカバーステーを形状変更品に交換する。更に、部品交換作業後の点検で吸気バルブから異音がしている場合は、シリンダヘッド一式を交換する。
