Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & Suzuki.
The Fuel Tank is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 79 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 36 Mitsubishi notifications from 2021 in this archive. For scale, 1,748 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 months.
Defect
On plastic fuel tanks, an improper manufacturing process results in some units where the breather pipe is not correctly welded to the fuel tank. Vehicle vibration during use can cause the weld joint to separate. If the tank is then filled to capacity, fuel may leak from the detached weld area.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the fuel tank; if the breather pipe weld is found to be defective, replace the fuel tank with a non-defective unit.
