Defect
The broken-wire detection software in the electric parking brake control unit is inadequate. If the parking brake is not applied or released for an extended period, an oxide film may form on the parking brake motor contacts, increasing contact resistance to a level that the control unit incorrectly interprets as a broken wire. As a result, the warning lamp illuminates and the electric parking brake may fail to engage.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the control software with the corrected version.
