Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 3 manufacturers: Daihatsu, Subaru & Toyota.
The Parking Brake is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 13 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 10 Daihatsu notifications from 2023 in this archive. For scale, 141 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 2 months.
Defect
The control computer for the electric parking brake contains incorrect software governing brake release, causing insufficient retraction of the brake cable in some cases. Repeated operation under this condition eventually drives the cable outside its normal operating range. The system then detects an anomaly during parking brake application and illuminates a warning light. In the worst case, the parking brake may become impossible to release.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the control computer inside the electric parking brake actuator.
