Filing in context
The Engine control computer is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 9 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 38 Mitsubishi notifications from 2017 in this archive. For scale, 1,167 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 8 months.
Defect
The engine control ECU contains an improperly designed control program for engine idling conditions. If the output signal from the crankshaft angle sensor, which monitors engine rotational status, experiences a temporary disturbance or momentary interruption, the ECU may fail to execute ignition and fuel injection correctly. This causes unstable engine operation and, in the worst case, may result in an engine stall.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control software to the corrected specification.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 3 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
