Filing in context
The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 11 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 41 Honda notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 448 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 4 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with paddle shifters, a software deficiency in the engine control unit (ECU) allows an excessively high load to be applied to the continuously variable transmission (CVT) drive pulley shaft when the driver shifts from 2nd to 1st gear via the paddle shifter during deceleration with the accelerator released. Repeated occurrence of this condition may cause the shaft to fracture. In the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable.
Corrective action
On all affected vehicles, check the on-board service diagnostic data recorder; if the load history on the drive pulley shaft is within the specified value, reprogram the engine control unit with the corrected/updated software. If the load history exceeds the specified value, replace the CVT with a new unit and reprogram the engine control unit with the corrected/updated software.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 4 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
