Defect
In the electric power steering gear, the terminal crimping method used to connect the torque sensor—which detects steering force—to the electrical wiring is improper, and may cause a continuity failure. This will illuminate the warning light and disable the power steering assist function, increasing the steering effort required to operate the vehicle.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the electric power steering gear will be replaced with a conforming unit.
