Filing in context
The Engine Control Computer is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 18 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 56 Mitsubishi notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 1,677 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 6 months.
Defect
The engine ECU fuel injection program is incorrect, causing the fuel injection learning function to operate abnormally. This leads to excessive soot accumulation in the DPF (diesel particulate filter). If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, the engine may stall and fail to restart.
Corrective action
Reprogram the engine ECU with the corrected software and perform fuel injection learning. Inspect the DPF and replace it with a new unit if excessive soot accumulation is found. Attach a correction sticker to the 'Common Rail Injection System Injection Volume Correction' inspection page in the maintenance booklet to correct the recorded content. On vehicles where the engine ECU has already been updated, only the maintenance booklet correction is performed.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 4 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
