Defect

On agricultural tractors, the engine control unit software is incorrect, causing elevated hydrocarbon (HC) concentrations in the exhaust gas. This exhaust gas circulates into the EGR cooler, generating carbon deposits that adhere to the EGR valve. Accumulation of these deposits degrades EGR valve movement, which may result in reduced engine output.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control unit with the corrected/updated software. Additionally, inspect the EGR valve and, if it does not operate normally, replace the EGR valve unit.
