Filing in context
The Other (engine) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 19 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 7 Daihatsu notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 83 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 5 months.
Defect
The internal coil of the engine crankshaft position sensor lacks sufficient durability at high temperatures. When the engine compartment reaches elevated temperatures — such as during hill climbing or traffic congestion — and the engine is then repeatedly operated at high rpm, such as during full-throttle driving, vibration may cause the internal coil wire to break. This may cause the engine to stall while driving or prevent the engine from starting.
Corrective action
(2)-1: Replace the crankshaft position sensor on all vehicles with the corrected part. Because parts supply will take time, the following interim measure applies until the corrected sensor can be installed: reprogram the engine control software to reduce the maximum engine speed limit. Once the corrected sensor is installed, reprogram the engine control software to restore the original specification. (2)-2: For vehicles on which the interim measure is not practicable, replace the crankshaft position sensor directly with the corrected part on all such vehicles.
