Defect

On large trucks, an incorrect engine control program combined with an improper EGR pipe design allows carbon deposits to form inside the EGR cooler and adhere to the intake valves when automatic and manual DPR (exhaust gas purification device) regeneration is frequently interrupted during standstill. Extended parking at low ambient temperatures causes the viscosity of the carbon deposits to increase. When the engine is subsequently started, the intake valves may stick and fail to slide properly. In the worst case, a valve may fracture, producing abnormal noise and causing the engine to stall.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control program and replace the EGR pipe with the corrected part.

状況

大型トラックにおいて、エンジン制御プログラムと排気ガス再循環(EGR)パイプの構造が不適切なため、停車中のDPR(排出ガス浄化装置)の自動再生と手動再生が頻繁に中断された場合に、EGRクーラ内でカーボンデポジットが生成されて吸気バルブに付着し、外気温が低い状態で長時間駐車されるとカーボンデポジットの粘度が増加することがある。そのため、エンジン始動した際、吸気バルブが摺動不良となり、最悪の場合、バルブが折損し、異音が発生するとともにエンジンが停止するおそれがある。

改善措置

全車両、エンジン制御プログラムを書き換えるとともに、EGRパイプを対策品に交換する。
