Defect

The vehicle-mounted emergency beacon light (aftermarket) has 16 perimeter fastening points joining the upper and lower covers. Stress concentration occurs at the embedded nut inserts in the lower cover, and external factors such as driving vibration and solar heat cause cracks to develop at those locations. Continued use damages the fastening points and, in the worst case, the upper cover may detach from the vehicle.

Corrective action

Replace the emergency beacon light on all vehicles with a corrected part.
