Defect

The brake light switch contains an internal design defect. When the brake is applied, current flows through the spring that closes the contacts, generating heat and causing the spring to elongate over time. This reduces spring tension and weakens contact pressure, resulting in a contact fault that prevents the brake lights from illuminating. In the worst case, the engine may also fail to start.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, the brake light switch is replaced with a corrected part.
