Defect

An improperly designed electrical circuit for the tail lamps, front fog lamps, and shoulder lamps causes excessive current to flow through the tail lamp relay, generating heat at the relay contacts. This heat deforms the plastic and connector sections of the relay. Continued operation may cause a contact fault, resulting in the tail lamps and other lighting failing to illuminate.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, reroute the fog lamp electrical circuit wiring, and replace the tail lamp relay and relay socket with new parts.
