Filing in context
The Suspension arm/rod is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 20 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 17 Mazda notifications from 2009 in this archive. Defect
During field service performed under recall notification number 1821, the bolt tightening procedure used when replacing the lower arm or lower arm ball joint was incorrect, resulting in insufficient bolt clamping force. Continued operation may cause the bolt to loosen and, in the worst case, fracture, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the bolt tightening condition. If a gap exists between the bolt and the lower arm surface, or if the bolt is missing or fractured, replace the entire lower arm assembly with new parts. If no gap is present, torque the bolt to the specified value.
