Defect
The hydraulic power steering supply-side rubber hose has insufficient heat resistance. Heat from the exhaust pipe catalytic converter degrades the hose, reducing its flexibility. Under the hydraulic pressure fluctuations that occur during steering input, the hose develops cracks and leaks power steering fluid. In the worst case, the leaking fluid contacts the exhaust pipe and causes a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
Replace the power steering supply-side hose assembly on all vehicles with the corrected part.
