Filing in context
The Headlamp is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 49 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 16 Suzuki notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 1,006 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 12 years and 5 months.
Defect
The headlamp socket wiring method is improper. When wiring is restowed after a headlamp bulb replacement, the socket bulb contacts may develop a poor connection on some vehicles. This causes arc discharge at the contact area, which may damage part of the wiring insulation. Continued use may result in a short circuit and headlamp failure and, in the worst case, vehicle fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the socket assembly and headlamp plate with corrected parts, add a clamp to the headlamp switch wiring, and install a new bulb. On vehicles equipped with a resistor wire, remove the resistor wire and convert to standard wiring.
