Defect

The propeller shaft universal joint at the transmission end operates at an excessive angle, causing elevated temperatures at that joint during high-speed driving. The elevated heat accelerates the degradation of grease lubrication. Progressive wear produces looseness and abnormal noise at the joint, and continued use may cause the joint to fail, in the worst case leaving the vehicle unable to travel.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the propeller shaft with a revised unit using higher heat-resistance grease.

状況

プロペラシャフトの変速機側のユニバーサルジョイント部の角度が大きいことから、高速走行時に当該部の温度が高くなるため、グリースの潤滑性の低下が早まるものがある。そのため、当該ジョイント部の摩耗が進んでガタや異音を生じ、そのまま使用を続けると、当該ジョイント部が破損して走行できなくなるおそれがある。

改善措置

全車両、グリースの耐熱性を向上したプロペラシャフトに交換する。
