Filing in context
The Engine General is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 7 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 4,234 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 2 months.
Defect
The rear engine mount that supports the engine has insufficient strength in its vibration-isolating rubber section. Repeated rotational rocking of the engine during acceleration causes cracks to develop in the rubber, which may progress to fracture. Continued operation then damages the front engine mount as well and, in the worst case, the powertrain-side support for the transmission control linkage may detach, making gear changes impossible. (Note: This recall supplements the original filing dated September 29, 2004, Notification No. 1238. Additional vehicles are being added due to an omission in the original scope selection.)
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the rear engine mount is replaced with a corrected part and the front engine mount is replaced with a new part.
