Filing in context
The Pressure control transmission system is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 2,576 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 1 month.
Defect
The brake air pipes are improperly routed, causing high stress in the pipes when the vehicle travels over rough roads or experiences severe vibration. Continued operation under these conditions can cause the pipes to crack and leak air. In the worst case, the cracks may grow to the point where the spring-type parking brake activates while the vehicle is in motion.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the brake air pipes. On any vehicle not already equipped with the corrected part, replace the air pipes with the corrected parts and relocate and add the pipe clamps.
