Filing in context
The Pressure control and transmission is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 2,144 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 2 months.
Defect
The brake air pipe is improperly routed, causing high stress to develop in the pipe when the vehicle experiences severe vibration on rough roads. Continued use allows cracks to form in the pipe, resulting in an air leak. In the worst case, the cracks may propagate and braking force may decrease.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the air pipe. On any vehicle where the corrected part has not yet been installed, replace the air pipe with a corrected part.
