Filing in context
The Other (fuel system) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 10 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 2,509 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 7 months.
Defect
① The geometry of the high-pressure fuel pipe in the fuel injection system and the design of the pipe's retaining clamp are incorrect. Engine vibration causes the clamp bolt to fracture or loosen, allowing the clamp to fall off. Continued use causes a crack to form in the high-pressure fuel pipe, resulting in a fuel leak and, in the worst case, engine stall and inability to restart.
Corrective action
① On all vehicles, replace the high-pressure fuel pipe and clamp with corrected parts.
