Defect
The ball joint connecting the drag link to the knuckle arm in the steering linkage has insufficient strength. Frequent high-effort steering maneuvers—such as repeated stationary steering—over an extended period can cause cracks to develop at the ball joint neck. Continued use may result in fracture of the ball joint neck and complete loss of steering control. Note: This recall supersedes the recall filed on March 12, 1992 (Notification No. 394). The corrective measures taken under that filing were determined to be insufficient, and a portion of the affected vehicles was not included. This filing revises the corrective measures and addresses the previously omitted vehicles.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the drag link assembly with the corrected part. On certain model variants, simultaneously replace the power steering pump with the corrected part (a unit with reduced hydraulic pressure). Because supply of the corrected parts requires additional lead time, the following interim measure applies immediately: notify all owners of the defect, inspect the drag link ball joint for cracks, replace the assembly with the corrected part on any vehicle showing abnormalities, and schedule replacement on vehicles showing no abnormalities once parts become available.

状況
①かじ取り装置において、ドラッグリンクとナックルアームを接続するボールジョイント の強度が不足しているため、据え切り等操舵力の高くなる使用を頻繁に長期間続けると 当該ボールジョイントの首部に亀裂が発生するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態 で使用を続けると、最悪の場合、ボールジョイントの首部が破損して操舵ができなくな るおそれがある。 (備考) 本届出は、平成4年3月12日付け「届出番号394」のリコール届出において、不具合 に対する改善措置の内容が不十分であったため、改善措置の内容を見直すとともに、一部 対象車両に漏れがあったため、再度対策を行うものである。
改善措置
①全車両、当該ドラッグリンク一式を対策品と交換するとともに、一部の型式車両にお いては、同時にパワーステアリングポンプを対策品(ポンプの油圧を下げたもの)と交 換する。なお、対策品の供給に時間を要すことから、当面の暫定措置として、全ての使 用者に不具合を通知しドラッグリンクのボールジョイント部の亀裂を点検し、異常が認 められる車両は対策品に交換し、異常の無い車両は後日対策品に交換する。
