Defect
Because the corrective instructions issued under a prior recall were inadequate, some steering gearbox pinion gear shafts retain spline wear. Continued operation in this condition causes eccentric rotation of the drive shaft between the transmission and the steering gearbox, imposing excessive force on the flywheel housing at the steering gearbox mounting. In the worst case, the mounting fractures, the steering gearbox detaches, and the vehicle becomes inoperable. (Note: This recall supersedes recall No. 571 dated May 25, 1999. The corrective instructions issued under that recall were inadequate, and corrective action is being taken again.)
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the steering gearbox assembly with a serviceable unit. Additionally, inspect the flywheel housing, clutch housing, and stiffener; replace any damaged components with new parts.

状況
リコールによる改善措置の指示が不適切なため、変向機のピニオンギヤシャフトのスプラ イン部に摩耗が残ったままのものがあり、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、変速機と変 向機との間のドライブシャフトに偏芯回転が発生することによってフライホイールハウジ ングの変向機取り付け部に過大な力が加わり、最悪の場合、当該取り付け部が破損、変向 機が脱落して走行不能となるおそれがある。 (備考) 本届出は平成11年5月25日付け「届出番号571」のリコール届出による対策措置指示が不 適切であったため、再度対策を行うものである。
改善措置
全車両、変向機一式を良品と交換する。また、フライホイールハウジング、クラッチハウ ジング、スティフナを点検し、損傷が認められる部品は新品と交換する。
