Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Isuzu & Nissan.
The Shift Lever / Pedal is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 22 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 40 Isuzu notifications from 2004 in this archive. For scale, 3,908 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 months.
Defect
The shift control cable, which transmits selector lever movement to the automatic transmission, is retained to the vehicle body by a cap. On affected vehicles, an incorrect cap was installed during assembly, allowing the cable to detach from its body-side mounting point when the selector lever is operated. As a result, moving the selector lever may not shift the automatic transmission internally.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the shift control cable with a conforming part. Because supply of the corrected part requires time, an interim measure will be applied: secure the cable retention point with a cable tie.
