Overview
| MLIT filing number | 1112050 |
|---|---|
| Type | Statutory Recall (government-mandated recall) |
| Date filed | August 19, 2004 |
| Manufacturer(s) | Nissan |
| Component | Exhaust Emission Control Device |
| Production period | April 10, 2002 — March 25, 2003 |
| Vehicles affected | 33,238 units |
Defect
The engine control computer software is calibrated incorrectly. When evaporative fuel vapor is supplied, the air-fuel mixture becomes excessively lean, causing exhaust temperature to rise. The front catalytic converter is subjected to repeated high-temperature exhaust gas exposure, causing thermal degradation and damage to the catalyst.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the engine control software. If engine diagnostic results indicate the catalytic converter may be damaged, replace the front left and right catalytic converters with new units.
