Defect

The left/right fuel switching valves inside the saddle-type fuel tank are improperly designed. When fuel level drops to one-quarter or below, vehicle vibration may cause the valves to resonate, resulting in seal failure. Air then enters the fuel system, causing engine rough running. In the worst case, the engine may stall while driving.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the affected valves with corrected parts. Because supply of the corrected parts will take time, all owners will first be notified of the defect and advised on precautionary operating measures; the physical repair will be performed at a later date.
