Defect

In the fuel injection system, improper machining of the fuel supply pump during manufacturing causes an internal crack to develop in the pump, allowing fuel to leak into the engine oil. Continued use causes the fuel-contaminated oil to be drawn through the blowby gas passage into the intake manifold and burned in the cylinder, causing engine speed to surge, engine stall, and inability to restart. In the worst case, fuel-contaminated engine oil may leak and result in a vehicle fire.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the fuel supply pump with a non-defective unit.
